ILIGAN CITY (PIA) — The Commission on Elections here conducted the Final Testing and Sealing of 263 vote-counting machines (VCMs) that will be used for the National and Local Elections on May 9, 2022.
Of the total VCMs in the City, 26 were allocated for the 12 hinterland barangays that were tested and sealed at the Diocesan Pastoral Center.
Acting City Election Officer Atty. Joel Dexter Nagtalon, assured the public to not fret when there is a power interruption during the election day since the voting-counting machines have backup batteries. Each battery can last up to atleast 14 hours.
“Together with VCMs, we also deployed back-up batteries. As a contingency, any 12-volt battery of vehicle can also be used as a backup battery,” he said.
Election watchers that came from various political parties fed the test ballots into the VCMs to check if the voter receipt that the machine produced matched with their votes.
The Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police also deployed their personnel to ensure security in the area.
Nagtalon said that contingency preparations were already in place if there are possible logistical and technical issues that may arise on voting day.
Comelec also assured that all facilitators including the teachers, DESO-Technical Support Staff, Electoral Boards, and the Board of Canvassers are well-trained and prepared to manage any potential problems that may arise on election day.
