ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–The Department of Science and Technology-Lanao del Norte joined the celebration of Iligan Business Month by spearheading the Science for Business Caravan on Oct. 3-4, to highlight the role of Science and Technology (S&T) through its services and programs.

One of the programs highlighted includes the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) which aims to improve operational efficiency and boost the productivity and competitiveness of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Virgilio M. Fuertes, Officer-in-Charge, Provincial S&T Director of DOST-Lanao del Norte underscored the significance of technological innovation to improve businesses.

“We are encouraging the MSMEs to consider business innovation thru adopting Science and Technology Intervention as innovation promotes adaptability, can help your business grow, helps you stand out against your competitors, and helps you make the most of new technologies.”

DOST conducted forums tackling Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, DOST Technologies for the Food Sector, Food Safety, and Halal Awareness.

Thru its project dubbed “Sustaining Consumer Confidence: Farm to Fork Integrated Food Safety Measures and Monitoring During a Pandemic”, two solar-powered vending carts were given to ambulance vendors. Moreover, the Sikyop Agriculture Cooperative also received a portable solar dryer from DOST which can be used for drying rice, corn, fish or seaweeds. (LELA/ PIA Lanao del Norte)
