ILIGAN CITY, Mar. 23 (PIA) -– With Iligan City now implementing an Enhanced Community Quarantine in an attempt to contain the coronavirus outbreak, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPW) Lanao del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office (LDN2 DEO) has successfully built a prototype of a mobile decontamination shower for dispatch to the entry and exit points of the city.

“This is our humble contribution to the fight against coronavirus. We need to be united as one nation, as Filipinos, to win this great war against an invisible enemy,” said District Engineer Alykhan Ali.

Normally, decontamination showers are used as temporary sanitary facilities for chemical accident cleanup, rescue operations, training exercises, and emergency response. The showers flush users with water to wash away contaminants.

The decontamination showers fabricated by DPWH-LDN2 DEO will spray a fine mist of disinfectant solution that will cover the entire body of those who will pass through the mobile decontamination facility.

Four disinfection tents will be set-up alongside the boundary checkpoints in Brgy. Dalipuga, Brgy. Abuno, Brgy. Buru-un and in Suarez national highway.

Among those expected to utilize the tents are healthcare workers, emergency frontliners, select government workers, farmers, cargo drivers, skeletal workforce of businesses offering basic services and commodities, media personnel, and hotel employees. They are the groups of people exempted from the lockdown.

“Studies have now shown that the coronavirus can survive for up to 4 hours on surfaces, there is, therefore, a clear need for a disinfection or decontamination facility in the entry and exit points”, added District Engineer Ali. (VNL/DPWH-LDN2 PIO)
