ILIGAN CITY –As part of its mandate to raise public awareness of the new Philippine National Standards 26:2018, the Department of Trade and Industry Lanao del Norte (DTI LDN) facilitated an orientation seminar on Philippine National Standards (PNS) for Black Iron-Galvanized Iron (BI-GI) Pipes, Steel Bars, Electrical Wires, and Ceramic Tiles.
The said seminar aims to disseminate information among consumers and hardware suppliers and retailers the standardized quality hardware products. This is to prevent them from patronizing substandard products that could compromise their safety.
“Mao nang gahatag ta og information dissemination not only sa mga consumers but also with our negosyante para mapahibalo sila kung unsa ang mga balaod og maprotektahan nato ang atong mga konsumante. At the same time, ang atong mga negosyante, as much as possible we do not want to penalize them mao nang before muabot nga mag penalize nata, e-inform nato sila kung unsa ang mga balaod nga kinahanglan efollow,” said Consumer Protection Division Chief Maria Lourdes Tiongco of DTI-Lanao del Norte.
[The reason why we conduct information dissemination not only to the consumers but also to our business owners is for them to be aware of the rules and for us to protect the consumers. At the same time, as much as possible, we do not want to penalize our business owners which is why before that time comes, we inform them about the rules to follow].Moreover, resource speakers from various associations comprehensively discussed the PNS for each hardware product. Among the speakers is Engineer June Vasquez from Ceramic Tiles Manufacturing Association who presented PNS for ceramic tiles or the PNS 13006:2019. He stressed the importance of using quality ceramic tile products.
“Maraming beses tayong nae-expose sa ceramic tile products. Sa dami ng exposure natin sa tiles, malaki yung probability na pwede tayong ma aksidente. Iyon yung dahil bakit kailangan ang ilalagay nating produkto ay gawang kalidad para maiwasan nating ang mga ganyang problema,” he said.
[We are often exposed to ceramic tile products. Because of this, there is a high probability of encountering accidents. That is the reason why we need to use quality products to prevent such problems].With such informative activity, 28 participants representing different hardware stores attended the orientation seminar.
