In a significant milestone, Bajau children and street children have successfully completed their high school and elementary education through the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Alternative Learning System (ALS). Their dreams are gradually coming to fruition.

This achievement is a result of the concerted efforts of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office’s Dangpanan sa Kabataan Day Care, led by Nena Macalisang. The team provided daily monitoring and support to ensure the students continued their studies. The Bajau children received comprehensive attention, including the provision of school supplies and moral support from CSWD staff.

Education is slowly transforming their lives. These Bajau children hope their success will inspire other children in their community to pursue education.

Gratitude is extended to DepEd teachers Maria Theresa Capangpangan, who taught elementary students, and Shellvan Joy Balase, who taught secondary students. Teachers from City Central School also played a crucial role, regularly visiting the center to teach. Their dedication and love have driven them to continue teaching, leading to this success for the children.

Thanks also go to the city’s mayor, Frederick W. Siao, for his unwavering support of the programs run by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
