ILIGAN CITY, Mar. 24 (PIA) — The local government of Iligan City started offering free transportation on Monday in a bid to help frontliners and skeletal workforce displaced by the suspension of public transportation amid COVID-19 threat.
In a Facebook post, the city government announced that “Libreng Sakay” vehicles will be dispatched to serve frontliners and skeletal workforce, both from the public and private sectors.
The designated pick-up areas in the morning are Centennial, Dalipuga; Buru-un (Sgt. M. Canoy School crossing); and Suarez (Lidas store). The departure time is at 7:00 a.m.
The drop-off points are Post Office and City Hall. These are also the designated pick-up points in the afternoon with departure time at 5:30 p.m.
Those who will avail of the free ride must bring their IDs or Certificate of Employment.
Executive Order No. 32 issued by Mayor Celso Regencia on March 20, 2020 placed Iligan City under Enhanced Community Quarantine. Public transportation was suspended as part of the implementation of the executive order.
The city government has encouraged private employers to provide transportation vehicles for their employees subject to the provision of social distancing. (APB/PIA-ICIC)
