ILIGAN CITY, Mar. 30 – Committed to ensuring that the ๐๐ข๐ต๐ข๐ณ๐ถ๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐บ (KP) system is functioning correctly and effectively, the ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ข๐จ๐ข๐ฑ๐ข๐ฎ๐ข๐บ๐ข๐ฑ๐ข Incentive Award (LTIA) committee has successfully conducted on-site assessment of twenty-eight (28) out of forty-four (44) Barangays of Iligan since its commencement last February 21, 2023.
With the committee almost done with the assessment of the coastal barangays, the team targets to extend the initiative to the hinterlands including eleven (11) barangays identified as Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA), before they conclude the program with the selection and awarding of a model barangay to serve as Iligan City’s representative to the regional level.
Cognizant of the challenges in conducting the assessment in hinterland barangays including geographic location, limited access to resources, and communication barriers, City Director and LTIA committee chair, Maria Maida Daniot is in unflinching belief that the team can successfully carry out the task by strategizing measures that consider the unique challenges of the areas.
โOverall, bringing the KP assessment to hinterland barangays is an important step in promoting peace and order in these communities. It may require additional effort and resources, but the benefits of ensuring that the KP system is accessible to all members of the community [including hinterlands], cannot be overstated,โ she said.
Further, she emphasized that once the assessment is complete, the committee can use the findings to identify any areas that require improvement and develop appropriate interventions to address these issues. This may involve providing additional training and support to lupon members or increasing the availability of resources to facilitate the KP process.
She lauds the efforts of all the members of the committee by being advocates of peace and empowering the KP system through the conduct of the assessment, by ensuring that disputes are resolved quickly and effectively at the barangay level. This, in turn, can help to reduce the number of disputes that escalate into more serious legal issues and promote a more efficient and accessible justice system in the Philippines.
