In a major development, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has given its official nod to the ambitious Unsolicited Laguindingan International Airport project situated in Misamis Oriental. With a staggering total project cost of 12.75 billion pesos, this project aims to transform the airport into a state-of-the-art facility catering to the region’s ever-increasing air travel demands.

The contractual arrangement for the Laguindingan International Airport project follows the model of Upgrade, Expansion, and Operations and Maintenance. Under this arrangement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will collaborate as co-grantors, combining their expertise to ensure the project’s success.

This groundbreaking initiative is set to span an extensive timeline of 30 years, encompassing a series of critical upgrades and expansions. Central to the project’s objectives is the enhancement of the existing facilities and the augmentation of its capacity to accommodate more flights and passengers. To achieve this, cutting-edge equipment will be installed, airside facilities will be revamped, and comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M) services will be implemented.

The Laguindingan International Airport has long been a vital gateway for both domestic and international travelers, serving as a crucial hub for the region’s economic growth and tourism. However, with the rapid growth of the region and the increasing demands on the aviation sector, the need for significant improvements has become apparent.

By undertaking this ambitious venture, the Philippine government aims to address the challenges posed by the airport’s current limitations and ensure seamless travel experiences for millions of passengers. Moreover, the upgraded facilities and services are expected to attract more airlines, boost tourism, and facilitate trade and commerce, ultimately fostering economic development in Misamis Oriental and its surrounding areas.

With the green light from NEDA, all eyes are now on the implementation phase, as stakeholders gear up to transform the Laguindingan International Airport into a world-class aviation hub. As the project takes shape over the next three decades, travelers can look forward to a more efficient, modern, and passenger-friendly airport experience, cementing the region’s position as a thriving economic and tourism hotspot.
