The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Iligan City Office awarded plaques of appreciation to its esteemed partners for their unwavering support in enhancing the skills of Barangay Tanods. Held during the flag raising ceremony last yesterday, the event was a testament to the collaborative efforts that have contributed to making Iligan City a safer and more secure place for its residents.

Barangay Tanods play a pivotal role in maintaining peace and order at the grassroots level. Their dedication to ensuring the safety and security of their respective communities often goes unnoticed, but it is a vital aspect of local governance. Recognizing their significance, the DILG Iligan City Office initiated a comprehensive training program aimed at enhancing the skills of these unsung heroes.

The Barangay Tanod Skills Enhancement Training program was designed to provide these volunteers with the knowledge and tools necessary to carry out their duties effectively. The program covered a wide range of topics, including first aid, disaster preparedness, conflict resolution, and community engagement. To ensure its success, the DILG Iligan City Office enlisted the support of various partners who contributed both their expertise and resources to the initiative.

Among the notable partners recognized during the ceremony were the Iligan City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Iligan City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Iligan City Public Order and Safety Command Center (POSCC) and the Barangay Affairs Office (BAO).

During her address, DILG Iligan City Program Manager, Villebette A. Sato expressed her profound gratitude to the partners and emphasized the significance of their collaboration. “The success of this program is a testament to the power of community partnerships. Together, we have not only improved the capabilities of our Barangay Tanods but also reinforced the spirit of unity and cooperation within our city,” she said.

The DILG Iligan City Office’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of Barangay Tanods remains unwavering, and their partnership with local agencies and organizations continues to be a driving force for positive change in the city. As Iligan City’s Barangay Tanods become better equipped to serve and protect their communities, the city takes a step closer to a safer and more secure future for all its residents.
