Irah Marie Mananggit, Cynnah Grace Balmadres, Laurence Adrian Camayudo, and Dianne Mae Bariso—fourth-year undergraduate students from the said department—acquired the Best Subtheme and Presenter for International, Regional, and Development Economics (Political Economy) Award with their work entitled, “Factors Affecting Regional Voter Turnout in the Philippines: A Macro Perspective.”

Meanwhile, the paper entitled “Macroeconomic Factors Affecting Renewable Energy Consumption: World Evidence” of April Joy Saranillo, Hope Niez, Nest Nadine Sala-ug, and Rogena Catanduanes—also fourth-year undergraduate students from the same department—secured the second place of the Best Subtheme and Presenter (Green and Blue Economy) Award.

According to Ms. Mananggit, their victory was a bittersweet experience as they encountered a language barrier and a problem on the internet connection in the middle of their presentation. Regardless, both teams were grateful for the opportunity to present and receive remarkable awards. “Being the only two groups na from PH…Naa jud language barrier… Nonetheless, we consider this feat as a tribute to the great Economics program sa IIT,” Mananggit added.
