ILIGAN CITY (PIA) – – Four hundred thirty-six girl scouts from different schools joined in the five-day city-wide 21st encampment to enhance their life skills and upgrade their values, especially after the pandemic.

Iligan Council President Rose Marie Ann Saavedra said the encampment was conducted because of the need of the girls to be exposed to life skills and how to handle themselves during emergencies.

“We are just hoping that our girls will be learning how to take care of themselves in terms of emergency and how to take care of themselves without their parents guiding them,” she said.

Girls Scout of the Philippines (GSP) Central Board Director Isabelita Borres emphasized that girls scouting is an application of all knowledge and skills of the students they learned inside the classroom.

Meanwhile, Rizalina Alemania, regional executive director of GS-Western Mindanao said that despite the pandemic, they never stopped providing opportunities for the girl students to be proactive.

Moreover, schools are elated with the activity as it capacitates their students with skills and knowledge.

“This event is very important because it will help the campers and learners develop survival skills. As a girls scout, it is very important that they will learn to survive in any situation, especially in emergencies,” said Cherryl Estabas of Iligan City National High School.

Moreover, Estabas encouraged the campers to continue joining in camping to experience fun.

The campers underwent training and awareness on Mental Health/Expressive Art, Self Defense, and Water Safety. There were also a Grand Campfire, Tita’s Night, the Coronation Night for Junior and Senior GSP, and Ginang GSP. (CEC/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
