In a resounding display of community unity and environmental consciousness, the Iligan City Youth Development Office (ICYDO) and various civic organizations came together on September 16th to commemorate International Coastal Cleanup Day. This global event, dedicated to safeguarding our picturesque coastlines and preserving marine ecosystems, took center stage in the coastal area of Barangay Poblacion, Iligan City.

Themed “Joining Hands, Cleaning Shores!”, the Coastal Cleanup at Barangay Poblacion saw an enthusiastic gathering of eco-conscious citizens, young and old, eager to roll up their sleeves and make a meaningful impact on their local environment.

The event kicked off early in the morning, as participants armed themselves with gloves, trash bags, and a shared commitment to a cleaner, healthier planet. Under the brilliant coastal sun, volunteers scoured the shoreline, meticulously collecting plastic waste, discarded items, and debris that had found its way to the coast.

Members of the ICYDO and partnering civic organizations provided guidance and support, ensuring that the cleanup proceeded efficiently and safely. Their collective efforts transformed the once littered shoreline into a pristine testament to the power of community action.

As the day progressed, the unmistakable sound of waves crashing against the shore was accompanied by the laughter and conversations of participants, all motivated by the knowledge that their actions were contributing to a brighter future for their city and the global environment.

The event served as a reminder that individual actions, when combined with collective determination, can have a profound impact. It underscored the importance of responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship in safeguarding our precious coastal environments.

As the sun began to set over the transformed coastline, participants gathered for a moment of reflection and celebration. They left with a sense of accomplishment, knowing that their contribution on International Coastal Cleanup Day would ripple far beyond the shores of Barangay Poblacion, leaving a lasting legacy of cleaner oceans for future generations.

With such dedicated initiatives and a growing awareness of environmental issues, Iligan City stands as a shining example of how communities can unite to protect and preserve the natural wonders that grace our planet. International Coastal Cleanup Day may be an annual event, but the spirit of environmental stewardship it fosters continues to thrive in Iligan City all year round.
