ILIGAN CITY, February 23 — In line with the current administration’s thrust of eradicating the illegal drug problem in the country through drug demand reduction and rehabilitation, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Iligan City led the launching of ‘Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan’ (BIDA) Program today.

The event highlighted activities that promote healthy lifestyles like Zumba and Fun Run from the Anahaw Theater and converged at the same venue for a short program with at least 1,000 participants in attendance.

DILG Regional Director Wilhelm M. Suyko, CESO IV, served as the resource speaker during the launching and expressed the Department’s full support in the war against illegal drugs.

“Asahan Ninyo na ang DILG ay palaging nandito upang patuloy na palakasin pa ang programang ito. We are here to support our PNP, among other agencies and we are here to advocate for a safer community,” he said.

The launching proper was followed by a press conference spearheaded by the City Government of Iligan. DILG Iligan City Director Maria Maida Daniot emphasized that one of DILG’s roles in the implementation of the BIDA program is to ensure its roll out and oversee the activities that will be implemented in the local government unit.

Contingents from the different National Government Agencies (NGAs), the Local Government Units (LGUs), and Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) all over the city actively participated in the said activity.

The BIDA Program aims to engage the participation of the community in the fight against illegal drugs through the whole-of-nation approach. Moreover, the grand launching of the BIDA Program at the city level aims to expand community awareness at the local level and harness citizen participation in the fight against illegal drugs.
